How often do you see a well-behaved dog and wish yours behaved too? Dogs are continuous learners and tend to self-train themselves based on the stimulus from their surroundings. Although they seem mute, they are constantly trying to communicate with us. Training your dog can thus be beneficial to both of you. But why is it important? Here’s how training can enhance your dog’s lifestyle.

    1. Safer for your dog
The human world is full of hazards and a dog that doesn’t follow commands might be in danger. He/she could eat something toxic, or could run onto the road which could lead to drastic repercussions. A well-trained dog can be directed to avoid such dangerous situations. Practice the “stay” command while you’re crossing the road, or the “no” command when you are eating so that they learn what is right and what is wrong.

    2. Safer for your home
Training your dog can help ensure that your house doesn’t end up in a mess. As you progress training your dog, they learn the difference between what is acceptable and what is unacceptable. This can save you a great deal of money that you would otherwise be spending on home repairs and will also ensure that your pet behaves well with the rest of your family.

Alleviates Stress

An untrained dog could show a lot of stress signs. He/she could get aggressive or scared when they encounter new people or new situations. Well trained dogs, on the other hand, are able to integrate well with humans as well as other dogs. Just like humans, dogs tend to get bored and this can lead to destructive and anxious behaviors. This is why training can help since it helps alleviate stress and boredom, while it also keeps them mentally stimulated.

 Avoid Problem Behaviors

  1. Positive training when used correctly, and at the beginning of the puppy’s development, can help avoid all sorts of behavior problems. Teaching your pup basic cues such as “come”, “sit”, “stay” can help prevent issues with impulse control as they age. It can also help prevent resource guarding, a common problem faced by many dogs.

  2. Increase Sociability
Contrary to popular belief, not all dogs are innately social but socialisation is an important aspect of their lives. Your dog is going to encounter new people and other dogs on their daily walks, in a vet clinic or if they decide to pay you a visit at home. Learning how to respond to other dogs, how to greet new people and what is acceptable and not acceptable behaviors is essential for them to understand.

Build a Positive Relationship

Your dog is in constant search of a mechanism to connect with you. One of the best ways to create a healthy bond and communicate effectively with your dog is through obedience training. You can get closer with your dog during the training phase and this can help you understand your dog’s needs better. These memories and the bond made will last for a lifetime. Additionally, having a well trained and obedient dog can make the entire pet parenting process easier for you as well.
