Tips to Retain Wet Food

As a pet mom to Mooli, Gajar, and Mishti, I know the struggle of keeping wet food fresh, especially since Mishti can be a little picky! Wet food is packed with flavor and moisture, which my pets love, but it’s also more perishable than dry food. Here are my top tips to ensure the food stays safe and nutritious for all my furry friends.

1. Refrigerate Leftovers Immediately
I always store any leftover food in an airtight container and pop it in the fridge right after serving. Wet food can go bad quickly if left at room temperature, so I make sure to use it within 1-2 days for maximum freshness.

2. Keep It Airtight
One of the biggest mistakes I used to make was leaving wet food in an open can. Now, I always transfer leftovers into an airtight container or use a silicone lid to seal the can. This locks in moisture and helps prevent the food from drying out or losing nutrients.

3. Avoid Leftovers in the Bowl
I know it’s tempting to leave food out for Mooli and Gajar to nibble on later, but wet food shouldn’t sit in the bowl for more than 2 hours. If they don’t finish it, I toss the leftovers to prevent any bacterial growth.

4. Use Smaller Portions
I’ve switched to single-serve pouches for Mishti, which makes life easier since there’s no leftover food to store. For Mooli and Gajar, I try to feed them in smaller portions to minimize waste and ensure the food stays fresh until they finish it.

By being mindful of how I store and serve wet food, I can make sure my pets enjoy it safely and it stays fresh. Wet food is a great treat, and with the right storage, it’s a win-win for everyone! 🐾
