Today I am here on Simba and Bosco’s behalf, to sniff out the best tips for keeping your dog’s wet food as fresh and tasty as the moment it’s opened. Freshness isn’t just about flavor—it’s about giving your furry buddy the nutrition and energy they need to wag their tails through the day. Let’s dive into my top tips!
As soon as you pop open that can or pouch, any leftovers should go straight into an airtight container and into the refrigerator. This keeps the food fresh and safe for up to 2 days. Remember, room temperature is no friend to wet food—it invites bacteria to the party!
Don’t leave wet food in its original, open container. Transfer it to a BPA-free, airtight container to lock in moisture and nutrients. Silicone lids designed for pet food cans are also a great option to seal in freshness.
Dogs like me can get pretty excited about mealtime, but we don’t always finish what’s in the bowl. To avoid waste and spoilage, serve only what your pup can eat in one sitting. Any uneaten food should be discarded after 30–60 minutes.
Before opening, keep wet food cans or pouches in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This prevents spoilage and ensures your stock stays fresh for when you need it.
After every meal, make sure to clean your dog’s bowl with hot, soapy water. Leftover residue can harbor bacteria and spoil future meals.
By following these steps, you’re ensuring that every meal is a fresh, healthy delight for your dog. Your pup deserves nothing less than the best. Remember, a happy belly means a wagging tail!
